50th Year Anniversary
This year marks the 50th year anniversary of perhaps the most famous World Championship match ever played. The match ignited a new wave of chess interest in the United States and with the Cold Wartaking place it had the whole world watching. It’s interesting to be able to look back now on the match with a fresh set of eyes and some upgraded computers to have an even better understanding of games played. For the most part, computers have confirmed Fischer’s play in his victories although Spassky’s I still find it a bit hard to explain some of Spassky’s passive play. Let’s take a look at two of Fischer’s most famous and pivotal victories in the match, Games 3 and 6.
